ALMA Telemetry Pipeline Optimization
Rewrite and optimize the bottleneck stages of our real-time ALMA RFI-flagging pipeline using C++ and CUDA.
As our data throughput from the ALMA array increases, our current Python-based flagging algorithms are hitting CPU bottlenecks. This project aims to translate the core tensor operations into C++ with CUDA acceleration.
The student will gain extensive experience in high-performance computing, memory management, and GPU programming in an astrophysical context.
Level: Undergrad / Magister Automated Pulsar Candidate Sifting
Develop a lightweight machine learning classifier to distinguish true pulsar signals from terrestrial noise in folded profile data.

Automated Pulsar Candidate Sifting
Develop a lightweight machine learning classifier to distinguish true pulsar signals from terrestrial noise in folded profile data.
This project involves working with archived radio data to train a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN). The student will learn how to process standard filterbank files, generate diagnostic plots, and train a model capable of recognizing the visual signature of a dispersed pulsar pulse.
Basic knowledge of Python and Jupyter Notebooks is required.
